I got the opportunity to attend this interesting Book Launch/ Meet and Greet from Shepherd`s Voice Publication via Mommy Bloggers Philippines.
As a child I have always been voracious reader. So attending an event that involves books is a treat for me, more now because these authors are writers of inspirational books that all Pinoys can learn from.
Kerygma Book had the event at Fullybooked Bonifacio High Street. The books were written by Catholic lay people, the books are filled with wisdom and lessons that every Filipino can relate to, with one message: your pains and struggles are real, and there may be ways to make them bearable, even with just the thought that one is not alone.
The books are short, inexpensive and very easy to read. The authors Rissa Singson Kawpeng, Obet Cabrillas, Marjorie Duterte, Arun Gogna and Rosanne Romero who all impart simple, practical and sensible tips -“Life Hacks” that they`ve learned through their own painful and enlightening life experiences.
The writers get to share their personal experiences via the short talk.
Dating, Love and Relationships
Ms. Rissa Singson-Kawpeng editor-in-chief of Kerygma, the Philippine No 1 Catholic inspirational magazine and author of bestselling books about dating and relationship talks about dating, love and marriage.
I particularly enjoyed Rissa`s delightful comment about not rushing into a relationship, “You can`t pull out an emerging butterfly from its cocoon or else you`ll cripple its wings for life. There is a purpose for our waiting. There are certain times and season for everything.” also her comment about loving yourself before jumping into a relationship “Some people think they will find their happiness when they find their One True Love. Wrong! If you`re not a happy single person, chances are you won`t be a happy married person either.”
I can also relate to her relationship advice about Marriage being a lot of hard work. According to Rissa, “Just as it takes time for relationships to break down, it takes even more time to restore them. You need patience, hard work and time to pick up all the pieces.”
Ms. Marjorie Duterte, writes for Shepherd`s Voice Publication talks about forgiving those who hurt you is the major step in healing yourself and rising above your brokenness. “People who are hurt, hurt people. Forgiveness allows us to love ourselves, and therefore allows us to love other people effectively.” In her book, she also shares 52 Practical Ways to Love Yourself. Take care of yourself so you can take better care of others.
Parenting and Child Care
Arun Gogna, Christian Artist, Lay Preacher and author is one of the funniest speaker during the event but he spoke seriously about Parenting and developing a relationship with our children. “Believe in our children, so they can believe in themselves.” I thought this statement is beautiful and so right.
In his book Lasting Gift, which I simply enjoy reading. He talks about Choosing Hats or how to Parents should adapt when teaching values to children. “Children should be educated, they also have to be left alone to educate themselves.”
Dr. Josephine T.R. Holgodo, Health advocate, In her book Your Newborn is a Blessing, Josephine Holgado M.D. emphasizes that when you plan to be a parent soon, you need to value yourself and believe that you can be the best parent in the world. “Any emotional distress that you feel reverberates inside you, and could affect your baby`s growth and development.” This is her 2nd book and it focuses on newborns but does`t stop with just physical rearing for these babies, but also their spiritual growth as well.
I enjoyed the talks, we also got to ask questions and interact with these exceptional people who actually have the same cares and worries as I do. I am also happy with the Media Kit they gave out with copies of all the books launched that day. Going through them one at a time. Savoring and absorbing the sensible advice they shared with us.
It is no surprise that Kerygema Books are endorsed by popular inspirational speaker Bo Sanchez: “What makes these books so engaging is the sincerity. These authors are not just sharing lessons- they are sharing with you their lives. They know your struggles because they too have been there. And they are going to help you go through it.”
