I recently attended the launch of Cotton USA`s new brand identity at R Space Makati. I never really thought about what type of cotton I have been using at home with my towels, bed sheets and my children`s clothes. But I do remember they that most of them had for that this label.
Cotton USA had been part the Filipinos lives since they were first introduced to consumers in 1989. A trusted Mark, often displayed on garments and a symbol of assurance that the item a person is purchasing is 100% cotton.
26 years later Cotton USA is revitalizing and relaunching.
Check out some of the products and brands that are partners of Cotton USA.

Cotton Council International ASEAN Representative Kraipob Pangsapa
Cotton International ASEAN Representative Kraipob Pangsapa came to Manila to officially launch the Mark here. He talked about the history of cotton and the Cotton USA logo. The revitalized vision of the brand will emphasize the three key attributes that set cotton apart from others- purity, quality and responsibility.
The event twist and turns of the cotton boll symbol in the logo represents the seven segments of the industry: producers, winners, warehouses, merchants, cottonseed handlers, cooperatives and manufacturers. It is a story of integration and partnership.
Finally, the design embodies the idea that cotton is on a a global journey. It is a story of a single fiber, born in the USA, from seed, sun and soil – not refinery-that travels around the world, touched each step by those who care, both in crafting and wearing, In the end, this fiber that was born in the earth, goes full circle and returns to earth.
I think that is so beautiful.

Dr. Ana Palabyab-Rufino
After the presentation of the new logo, the very beautiful Dr. Ana Palabyab-Rufino talked about Fabric Dermatitis and the advantage of cotton.
According to Dra, Rufino, Cotton is soft and comfortable. It is hypoallergenic and won’t irritate sensitive skin or cause allergies. The fibers are spun tightly into yarn that won’t irritate skin or cause static electricity. Because of this reason, items that you wear frequently and close to your body, like T-shirts and underwear, are usually made of cotton.
Cotton is all-natural and doesn’t contain chemicals. Natural fabrics like cotton fabric are highly breathable and allow air circulation that discourages fungi from growing in dark, moist environments. Synthetic fabrics don’t offer such ventilation, and constrictive garments in man-made materials can encourage yeast to flourish.
Cotton is perfect for wearing in the summer, and when you think about it in the Philippines it is always summer! It can easily absorb body moisture and help keep you dry by drawing it away from the skin where it evaporates in the air around you. Cotton is also able to draw heat away from your skin, keeping you cool and comfortable in hot weather.

Cotton Council International ASEAN Representative Kraipob Pangsapa recently flew to Manila to officially launch the new COTTON USA Mark here. With him is Dr. Ana Palabyab-Rufino who discussed the importance of using natural fibers such as cotton in our everyday wear, especially for babies, during the event. Cotton being non-irritant, breathable, and safe, she added, may help prevent skin conditions such as contact dermatitis.
Some Laundry Tips for Cotton Garnets and Home Textiles from Cotton USA:
1. Follow care-label instructions precisely
2. Sort. Keep whites, darks, brights and mdium colors separate.
3. Denim, corduroy and canvas go in a cool wash; lighter colors and materials go in warm water.
4. Pre-treat stains before you wash them to prevent setting.
5. Don`t overload! Leave space for you clothing and detergent to move freely in the washing machine.
6. Keep your brights vibrant by turning clothing inside out before washing.
7. Dry just long enough to remove wrinkles and moisture. If left too long, the heat can actually set wrinkles, increase static cling and cause shrinkage.
You have to be certain that the cotton wear you purchase are from a trusted brand like Cotton USA. Look for their new mark.
Until next time!
